DJI Mavic 2 Pro Review: Best 4K UHD Camera Drone for Beginners
DJI Mavic 2 Pro Review: Best 4K UHD Camera Drone for Beginners

Hi and welcome to my DJI Mavic 2 Pro review. It is one of the best smart camera drones with built-in 4K UHD camera equipment for both beginners and professionals. If you are looking to get your hands on one of those big drones such as Holy Stone HS720E and Potensic D68. But you would prefer to have the luxury of a high-end camera drone that can shoot true 4K UHD stills and video resolution with incredibly high details.

Then look no further, because the DJI Mavic 2 Pro is one of the best foldable drones for beginners, professionals and travelers right now in the market. It is packed with awesome flight speed, performance, and comes with tons of features that will keep you busy. Even though the DJI Mini 2 is out right now and doesn’t have to be registered with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) at all. The DJI Mavic 2 Pro remains a clear choice for a number of reasons.

Which is why I assembled an in-depth DJI Mavic 2 Pro review to guide you through all the details that you need to know about this smart 4K UHD camera drone. In this review, I will talk about this drone’s build and design quality, flight performance, camera quality, and features. That being said, should you buy DJI Mavic 2 Pro drone? Stick around with us and read through the DJI Mavic 2 Pro review to find out!

DJI Mavic 2 Pro: Package Contents

One of the most important parts about this review is getting to know what comes in the package. The DJI Mavic 2 Pro comes in a complete package and you also will have the option to purchase a “Fly More Combo” kit if you want extra batteries, travel case and additional cables.

Though, I highly recommend purchasing a fourth flight battery for DJI Mavic 2 Pro as you will definitely find yourself in time needing a spare battery. Plus you need to buy a 128GB micro SD card to go with this drone. The DJI Mavic 2 Pro produces 4K UHD videos and that can eat up memory pretty quickly, so it’s good to have a micro SD card that can hold large memory files.

DJI Mavic 2 Pro: Design and Build Quality

My initial impression with this foldable camera drone was the high-quality craftsmanship level. It is made with durable aluminum material that provides an exceptional and durable framework. Which makes it tough to break the DJI Mavic 2 Pro apart, a must-have design feature for beginners and professionals who want to fly a drone for a long time. The motor arms are foldable and come equipped with brushless motors that deliver superior flight speed and performance.

When the drone is folded, it has a total body size dimension of 214 x 91 x 84 mm. Upon unfolding the motor arms, it has a total body size dimension of 322 x 242 x 84mm. The DJI Mavic 2 Pro drone weights 907 grams which is at least 4 times more compared to the DJI Mavic Mini. Each motor arms feature built-in LED lights that provide visual assistance during day and night flight operations.

DJI Mavic 2 Pro Drone

I also liked how modern, modular and sleek this drone design is. To power on the DJI Mavic 2 Pro drone, simply push the power button on the top of the battery. If you want to switch batteries, simply hold the secure locks on both sides, remove and insert a charged battery. The battery features built-in LED lights that keeps you informed of how much juice it has left inside.

At the front, the drone is equipped with Hasselblad camera which boasts 1″ CMOS sensor and masterfully captures up to 48MP stills with great details and color level. Any avid aerial photographers should know that the DJI Mavic 2 Pro boasts one of the best camera specifications in its price category. Overall, this drone design is very solid, durable and expertly crafted with high quality.

DJI Mavic 2 Pro: Flight Performance

Getting to fly the DJI Mavic 2 Pro drone is the most exciting part. If you are a beginner and don’t have any prior flight experience. Don’t worry because flying the DJI Mavic 2 Pro drone is actually very easier than you think. In fact, this foldable quadcopter is equipped with a number of safety features. Plus it is capable of flying up to 44 miles per hour.

DJI Mavic 2 Pro Camera Drone

The DJI Mavic 2 Pro is equipped with a 360-degree obstacle avoidance sensor which allows the drone to see its surroundings in a complete circle. Even if you are navigating in tight quarters, the DJI Mavic 2 Pro built-in obstacle avoidance system provides a cushion between the objects and drone. Plus this quadcopter is equipped with a GPS / GLONASS system that eliminates most of the stabilization issues.

That ensures the DJI Mavic 2 Pro is able to maintain precise positioning, which makes it super easy enough for a beginner to learn how to fly a drone. Since you will be spending most of the time flying the drone around rather than tweaking stability which is common with toy drones such as Sanrock U52 and Tomzon D25. A single battery provides up to 31 minutes and can resist moderate to high winds with ease thanks to weight which adds a natural buffer against the weather condition.

Another major flight performance that the DJI Mavic 2 Pro drone has to offer is extended flight range. Out of all drones that you see in the consumer market, the DJI Mavic 2 Pro is one of the drones that has an impressive flight range up to 11 miles. The closest competitors are DJI Mavic Air 2 and Mini 2 which have a flight range of 11.5 miles and 6.2 miles respectively.

DJI Mavic 2 Pro: Camera Quality

In the next part of our in-depth DJI Mavic 2 Pro review, we will talk about camera quality. Whether you are a beginner, traveler or drone photographer. It’s always a smart idea to get a drone that has really good camera specifications. While there are plenty of camera drones to choose from, DJI is one of the popular drone brands that is well-known for crafting high-quality quadcopters. Which lets you make money with these DJI drones.

The DJI Mavic 2 Pro comes with a 4K UHD camera. It can capture stills and videos at 4K UHD resolution quality. Plus it is capable of recording videos at 60 FPS, which beats DJI Phantom 4 Pro. Drone photographers also will enjoy one of the biggest upgrades that the Mavic 2 Pro comes with for producing videos at an impressive 100MB/S. It can produce both JPEG + RAW file formats which gives flexibility to edit the images for final production.

DJI Mavic 2 Pro Smart Camera Drone

The Hasselblad camera is mounted on a 3-axis gimbal stabilizer that keeps it leveled through the flight operations. It also can be adjusted remotely using the remote controller. Through DJI Go 4 App, you will have the option to utilize the drone’s camera such as Hyperlapse Mode, Panorama Mode, and Timelapse Mode to create immersive videos to capture your audience’s attention. The DJI Mavic 2 Pro camera uses enhanced HDR technology to create complete and vibrant color quality.

The camera also can use either H.264 or H.265. Though it is highly recommended that you stick to H.265 as it is the newer version that compresses the file better compared to H.264. As I mentioned before, I highly recommend purchasing a 128GB micro SD card to go with this camera drone. So that way you will have plenty of space to store drone footages.

DJI Mavic 2 Pro: Features

Believe it or not, the DJI Mavic 2 Pro is packed with so many features. Thanks to built-in GPS / GLONASS integration which enables the drone to fly autonomously. You can command this drone from the following intelligent flight modes: Follow Me mode, Orbit Mode, Rocket Mode, Helix Mode, Waypoint Mode, TapFly Mode, and Gesture Mode. There’s even more intelligent flight modes such as Asteroid Mode and Boomerang Mode that’s available through DJI Go 4 app.

Aside from these intelligent flight modes, the DJI Mavic 2 Pro features OcuSync 2.0 that enables a bigger and longer flight range. The newly upgraded transmission system ensures a strong communication signal between the drone and remote controller, especially in urban cities where there is a lot of radio interference. Additionally, the DJI Mavic 2 Pro comes with ActiveTrack 2.0 that uses trajectory path to predict where the target is moving at.

DJI Mavic 2 Pro Features

For beginners and professional remote pilots, there’s a number of smart safety features that this drone is equipped with. For starters when you fly the DJI Mavic 2 Pro for the first time. It will start at the slowest speed setting. Once you feel comfortable, you can switch to normal and eventually sports mode to improve your remote piloting. Next, you can choose to enter Headless Mode — which switches flight direction from drone to remote controller. That will make it easy enough for beginners to learn how to fly.

If you ever fly the DJI Mavic 2 Pro and lose visuals on the HUD screen. Don’t fret, simply press the Smart Return to Home button to recall the drone. The DJI Mavic 2 Pro will fly several meters up and start heading to the Home Point in a clear direct line. Thanks to obstacle avoidance sensors, the DJI Mavic 2 Pro is smart enough to navigate on its own without any pilot input.

DJI Mavic 2 Pro: Remote Controller

Lastly, the DJI Mavic 2 Pro comes with its own remote controller. Unlike any other toy-graded drones, the Mavic 2 Pro remote controller comes with advanced features and a foldable arms which lets you insert your personal smartphone. This remote controller also have built-in rechargable battery that runs for up to 4 – 5 hours on a single charge.

DJI Mavic 2 Pro Remote Controller

While there is not much of design changes from the original DJI Mavic Pro to DJI Mavic 2 Pro, the user interface and design is very simple and easy enough for beginners to use. On the top comes with foldable antennas which can be utilized to provide signal connection to the drone. To power on the remote controller, simply push the power button on the top right corner. You will be able to access to all of the information such as altitude hold, battery status, and flight mode on the built-in HUD screen.

To capture stills and record videos, simply push the buttons on the shoulder. If you want to customize the DJI Mavic 2 Pro remote controller, you can do so through adjusting the settings via DJI Go 4 App on your smartphone. However, if you want to have more flexibility and reduced start-up time. You can switch to DJI Smart Controller which is basically built-in smartphone remote controller. It has everything you need to start flying right away. Best of all, it works with DJI Mavic Air 2 and DJI Mini 2 which is a real good deal if you plan to buy a few DJI drones.

DJI Mavic 2 Pro: Conclusion

To wrap up our in-depth DJI Mavic 2 Pro review, we think it is one of the best professional drones for both recreational and commercial purposes. You will definitely need to register the DJI Mavic 2 Pro with the FAA if you want to fly it legally. Also, you will have to take and pass Part 107 exam in order to make money with this drone for commercial flights. Though, if you are going to ask me whether you should buy DJI Mavic 2 Pro drone.
